OPEN LETTER TO DCI
by Carman Cluna
(Published in DCW circa 1988 and The History of Drum Corps vol.1)
Do not feast too ravenously upon the rewards of the present. Do not
over -capitalize upon the efforts of more than 50 years…
Look upon drum corps as something to be CHERISHED … NOT SOMETHING TO
BE DISCARDED WHEN THE PROFITABILITY DIMINISHES!
Your chief concern should be the KIDS… NOT the percentage of
profit.
Encourage a rebirth of locally-oriented corps… encourage the
involvement of 11 to 12 yr olds kids - who can - hopefully - savor
the drum corps experience for the rest of their lives!
Promote the activity especially where it would do the most good,
INNER CITY KIDS!
Some may say, " I am only one person, what can I do to bring this activity that I so love so much back to being a real Drum and Bugle Corps"?
To the Drum Corps Public
The drum corps public must make its feelings known… contacting
this web site directly is NOT the answer. YOU MUST MAKE YOUR
FEELINGS KNOWN TO DCI, and the rest of the drum corps fraternity. A
letter OR email to Drum Corps World will reach thousands…but a
letter and email to this web site will only reach this site.
BOMBARD DCI WITH LETTERS AND EMAIL UPON LETTERS AND EMAIL!
Let it be known that you will not abide the disintegration of the
drum corps activity! IF NEEDS BE WITHHOLD YOUR PATRONAGE… missing a
contest or two will be a
"small
price to pay" for insuring that there will be any contests
at all a few years from hence
